Jeanne Elizabeth (Day) Powers passed away on Friday, July 9, at home in Yarmouth Port, after a brief illness. She had achieved the age of 99 at the time of her passing.
Jeanne was born February 17, 1922, in Athol MA to Marshall M. and Emma T. Day. Her brother, Marshall M. Day Jr, predeceased her.
Jeanne graduated from Athol High School in 1939, and then studied nursing at Mt. Auburn Hospital in Cambridge, and received her Registered Nursing License in 1944. She worked at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, and then moved back home to work at Athol Memorial Hospital.
Jeanne married Richard F. Powers in 1950, and they began married life in Orange, MA. Jeanne and Dick had three children – Christine, Frederic (deceased) and Deborah Swindlehurst. The family relocated to Charlotte, NC in 1975.
When Dick and Jeanne retired, they moved to Flagler Beach, FL. When Dick’s health began to fail in 2003, they moved to Cape Cod, to be closer to family. He passed away in 2005.
Jeanne made a career in nursing; hospital care, nursing home, high school and summer camp. She served on the local board of health in Orange. She performed patient training for individuals suffering from diabetes and other chronic diseases.
Jeanne was a caring person. She was supportive, a good listener, opinionated, interested in politics, and had a great sense of humor. She was a good friend to her children’s friends. All of these qualities were evident right up to the end.
She leaves behind two daughters, Christine Powers of Yarmouth Port, and Deborah Swindlehurst and her husband, Gregg, of Charlotte, NC; grandsons, Kent and his wife, Amelia, of Raleigh NC, and Garrett and his wife, Anna, and their sons Maxwell and Flynn, Jeanne’s great grandsons, of St. Paul, MN. We also acknowledge Jeanne and Chris’s long- time roommate, Joanne Parker.

Guest Book
I send my most sincere condolences to the Powers family on the passing of your mother. She was my advisor in my senior year and helped me greatly. I had known her for many years, as I was the fishing buddy of dear Fred going back to elementary school. I hope you will enjoy your precious memories once the sadness fades.
