Richard A. Nelson, age 89, of Palm City, FL and Yarmouth Port, MA passed away on June 16, 2021. He grew up in Bronx, NY and was the son of the late George and Virginia Nelson. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Dolores Nelson (LaRossa). 

 

Many of Dick’s fondest memories of growing up revolve around his summers in Smallwood, NY where he met his future wife. He also spent many wonderful days at Yankee Stadium with his grandfather cheering on the New York Yankees.  He and Dolores raised their four boys in Yonkers, NY before moving to Riverside, CT in 1974.

 

He served proudly in the US Army where he attained the rank of 1^St Lieutenant and was a graduate of Fordham University. He worked his entire career in wealth management for Banker’s Trust Company until his retirement in 1993. His favorite pastimes were playing golf and bridge.  Dick was a member and former board officer of Tamarack Country Club in Connecticut and The Harbour Ridge Yacht and Country Club in Stuart, Florida.

 

In addition to his wife, he is survived by; four sons, Bob (Michele), Bill (Laura), Ken (Lisa), and Tom (Annalise); and his eleven grandchildren, Geoff, Ali, Tucker, Samantha, Harry, Brian, Dennis, Jennifer and Tommy Nelson, Kyle LaRocca (Adam) and Kathleen Harrison (Jamie), and a great-granddaughter, Mary Harrison. 

 

Richard is predeceased by his sister, Kathryn Keane.

 

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on September 13, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.  at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA.

. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to the Hope Rural School of Indiantown, Florida or to the charity of your choice.
