Charles K. Gross (Charlie), 93, of Yarmouth Port, passed away on June 4th. Charles was born in Mount Vernon, NY to Carl and Blanche Gross. After graduating from Edison High School in 1947, he continued his studies at Fort Schuyler Maritime Academy. On May 2, 1949 he started his career for the New York Telephone Company, in installation and repair. Over his 36 years with the company, he retired in a supervisory position as a Transmission Engineering Specialist on May 2, 1985.
In 1952 he met Edith Lester and they wed that same year, going on to have two children, Susan and Kevin. Charlie was a good provider to his family, who meant more to him than anything in the world. He was unendingly proud of his children and grandchildren and always did his best to support them. Upon retirement, he and Edith moved to Cape Cod where they continued to make memories with their family.
Charlie was incredibly mechanically inclined and had the ability to fix just about anything. He enjoyed gardening, landscaping and working with his hands. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and a good neighbor.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Edith, his son-in-law Vince Nigro, and his brother, Richard. He is survived by his daughter Susan Nigro of Yarmouth Port; his son Kevin and his fiancé Kelly McMann of Poughquag, NY; as well as two granddaughters Victoria Schoen and her husband Jonathan of Simi Valley, CA and Amanda Gross of Boston, MA.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, June 12, 2021 from 10:00am to 11:00am in the Hallett Funeral Home 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Funeral service will immediately follow in Hallett Funeral Home. Charles will be eternally laid to rest at Ancient Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made in his name to The Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
