Iara Pires de Figueiredo Murta passed away at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts on April 3rd, 2021. Born in Conceição do Mato Dentro, in the state of Minas Gerais in Brazil she was the daughter of the late Antônio Xavier de Figueiredo and Maria Antônia Pires de Souza. She married José Murta Sobrinho in April 20th 1974 in Minas Gerais, where they started their family.
Iara graduated from Colégio Nossa Senhora Da Conceição in the town of Serro. She is remembered by her loved ones as a joyous, jubilant, and energetic soul who made the world a more beautiful and delicious place. She was an excellent mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend to all with whom she interacted. Always known for her hospitality and generosity, those who have had the pleasure of sampling her cooking will know the magic of her kitchen.
She brought her family to Cape Cod, Massachusetts in the 80’s and permanently moved there in 1996. She was a proud Brazilian-American immigrant, a hard-working house cleaner and quitandeira - who baked traditional Brazilian goods to share with her family, friends, and community. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, and feeding anyone who entered her home.
Iara is now with her baby daughter Aparecida Pires Murta, her predeceased parents Antônio Xavier de Figueiredo and Maria Antônia Pires de Souza, and her brother Romeu Antônio.
Iara is lovingly remembered by her children, Cíntia Madureira and her husband Menderson, Roberta Kasprzak and her husband Marcio, and Paulo Roberto Murta and his husband Travis Kelley as well as her grandchildren: Matheus, Samuel, Maitê, and Mariana. Her brothers: Rubens, Salatiel, Décio, João, Abel, Duval, Robson, and sisters: Irís, Isabete, Maria De Lourdes, Isolina, Iêda e Irinéia.
Visitation will be held Saturday, April 10th, 2021 from 10AM-11AM at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave, South Yarmouth, MA. A graveside service will follow visitation at Chandler Gray Cemetery in West Yarmouth, MA. This will be livestreamed so family and friends can say their farewells and participate from afar with respect to CDC social-distancing guidelines.

Condolences to the whole Murta family in this time of grief. I will always remember the amazing food at Paulo's partys. Mrs. Murta was always so welcoming to us. the world is lesser for her passing.
