Robert L. "Obie" Obuchon

Oct 11th, 2015

OBUCHON – Robert L. “Obie” 69 of Forestdale died unexpectedly Sunday October 11, 2015.

He was the husband of Sheryl “Sheri” (Cornforth) Obuchon for 31 years.

Born and raised in Norwood, Bob was the son of the late George T. and Alice D. (Hanscom) Obuchon. He graduated from Norwood High School in 1964 where he was a top athelete in football and baseball.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Specialist 4th Class in 1967. Obie worked in the automotive and tool industry throughout southern and eastern United States and retired in 2005.

He was a consummate salesman, earning a number of accolades and awards including “Salesman of the Year” numerous times. Sheri was the love of his life. They shared a passion for traveling, especially cruising. They were lucky enough to sail on 62 cruises that included Bermuda, the Caribbean, Mexico, and Europe. The Cape Cod Cruisers will always remember him forming a profitable syndicate as their horse, “A Touch of Class from Cape Cod Mass”, cruised to a first place finish on the high seas. Obie’s quick wit was always a hit with the other passengers and many still call to mind his final answer in “The Newlywed Game” and his singing performance of “Elvis ‘Pelvis’ Presley”.

In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by three sisters, Gerri Eagan and her husband, Bill of St. Petersburg, FL, Suzanne Varney and her husband, Bruce of Indian Trail, NC, and Annette Baldasarre and her husband, Tom of Mansfield; his father in-law, Hal Cornforth of West Yarmouth; a brother in-law, Steven Cornforth and his wife, Louise of Warren, ME; a nephew, Whitney Cornforth and his wife, Beth of Roslindale; three nieces, Aubrey Thu and her husband, Tom of Waltham, Ali Covie and her wife, Sarah of Portland, ME, and Katie Stewart and her husband, John of St. Petersburg, FL; two great nephews, Cole and Riley Cornforth; and his beloved cat, Naples P. Morgan. In addition to his parents, Obie was predeceased by a brother, Peter Obuchon.

A celebration of Obie’s life will be held at a later date.
