Gladys E. (Learned) Kearney 93 of South Dennis, passed away Monday December 21, 2020 at Mayflower Place in West Yarmouth.

She was the wife of the late John E. “Jack” Kearney. They had been married for 61 years.

Born in Clinton, and spent most of her life in Hudson, Gladys was the daughter of the late Clarence and Gertrude (Leslie) Learned.

Gladys, and her husband, moved to their beloved Cape when Jack retired from General Motors. She then continued to work out of the Hyannis office for Raytheon. After Gladys retired, she remained active with the Raytheon retiree’s group, where she enjoyed the continued friendships of her coworkers.

Gladys dedicated many years of service to the Sesuit Boat Owners Association, creating and organizing many of their fundraising events. She also enjoyed her involvement in town government, running local campaigns for her dear friend, Heidi Schadt, and serving on several local committees.

After her husband passed away in 2009, Gladys found strength and comfort in her sister, Marjorie’s company. Unfortunately, their time together was short lived, as Marjorie also passed later in 2009.

Gladys especially enjoyed spending time with special friends, Randi Cherchiglia, Roberta Lecke and Heidi Schadt. She loved her home, her neighborhood, and her community. She supported causes across the Cape through her involvement in the Dennis/Harwich Lions, the Dennis Conservation Trust and the Dennis Police Association. She was also a faithful member of the Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster.

Gladys is survived by her “adopted” Maine family, Karen and Dennis Higgins and many wonderful friends and special neighbors.

Due to COVID, there will not be a service at this time.

Those wishing to make a tribute contribution may donate in her memory to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod - Hospice, 255 Independence Drive, Hyannis, MA 02601.
