Ragnar W. Carlson “Ray”, 86 of South Yarmouth died Saturday December 12, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.

He was the husband of Ann Marie (Connors) Carlson. They had been married for 48 years. He was also the husband of the late Emeline (Welch) Carlson.

Born in Brockton, Mr. Carlson was the son of the late Ragnar and Helen (Brady) Carlson. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict.

For more than fifty years, Mr. Carlson traveled the globe as one of the leading shoe designers in the world.

Ray, and Ann Marie, have lived in South Yarmouth for the past thirty five years and have been very active in the community with the Bass River Yacht Club, the Cultural Center of Cape Cod, and the Bass River Civic Association.

Ray will always be remembered for his passion for conversation, art, music, Red Sox, Patriots, his lawn, and his wonderful, loving neighbors on the Cape.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Carlson is survived by a son, Robert Carlson and his wife, Susan; two daughters, Cynthia MacLean, and Alison Thompson and her husband, Mark; nine grandchildren, Christina, Matthew, and Emma Carlson, Madison Power, Taylor MacLean, Riley and Brady Thompson, and Thomas and Emeline Berry; and two great grandchildren, Reeve and Harry Power. In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Carlson was predeceased by a daughter, Emeline Berry, and two sisters, Gloria McDonald and Irene Pigeon.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday December 18 in St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will be private.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Hyannis Public Library, 401 Main St., Hyannis, Ma 02601 or to the Yarmouth Food Pantry, 845 Rte. 28, South Yarmouth, MA 02664.

I am so sorry. I thoroughly enjoyed visits with Ray when he came to Minnesota. He knew Twin Cities restaurants better than we did. Always a smile for everyone. He was special.
