George M. White
May 2nd, 2020
George M. White of South Yarmouth, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital at the age of 77. He was the loving husband of Priscilla Sears White of South Yarmouth for thirty-five years and the former husband of Lois White of Centerville.
Born in Brockton, MA on July 27, 1942, George was the son of Robert E. and Dorothy L. (Coulter) White. A 1960 graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School, George gained the Red Sox attention, and they labeled the former D-Y star “a kid with a lot of potential”. George, an All Star Player for the Cape League, was selected to try out for the Boston Red Sox while playing third base for the Brewster Whitecaps. He chose to join the Air Force and was stationed in Okinawa, where he played baseball for the Air Force team for two years.
He was the owner of All Cape Automatic Transmissions in Hyannis and the Windmill Crafters Outlet in West Dennis. George was an outstanding golfer, but nothing brought a smile to his face more than a good story, a good dog and a good boat.
In addition to his wife, Priscilla, he will be deeply missed by his son, Eric J. White of Hyannis, his daughters, Laura A. Weinstein of Centerville, Suzanne L. White of Braintree and stepdaughter, Melissa L. Jaques of South Yarmouth. Lovingly known as Grampy, George leaves behind six grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brother, Robert E. White Jr. and sisters, Ruth Urquhart and Marjory Kiley.
Due to Covid-19 concerns, a private burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Gifts in his memory may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Boston, Cape Cod Branch, 3981 Main Street (Rt 6A) Brewster, MA 02631
