John F. “Jack” Flannery, age 73, died on March 7, 2020 at Cape Cod Hospital surrounded by the family who loved him. Jack was the only son of the late Marion L. and John F. Flannery of Roslindale MA. In addition to his parents Jack spent a childhood enriched by grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. He is survived by his wife of 51 years Chloris H. (Morgan) Flannery and their two children. His son Seth and his wife Kimberly of Holliston and his daughter Erin DeMarco and her husband Salvatore of Norwood MA. He was the brother-in-law of Frank Morgan and his wife Susan of Baltimore, nephew of J. Neil Kelleher and his wife Mary of Norwood, cousin of Deborah A. Doyle of West Roxbury MA, Judith Kelleher of Roslindale MA, Jeanie Simas and her husband Edwin of West Roxbury, and Godfather to Joanna Gaughan and Bryan Kelleher of Walpole MA. He was predeceased by his loving cousin William T. Doyle of West Roxbury. Three grandsons gave him immeasurable joy, Nicholas and Keegan Flannery of Holliston and Luke DeMarco of Norwood.

Jack was a 1964 graduate of Catholic Memorial High School, where he played hockey, and a 1968 graduate of Babson Institute. He worked for several brokerage firms in Boston and on the Cape until working independently as a consultant. Though Jack was an avid fan of all Boston sports, he had a lifelong love of hockey and the Bruins prompting him to grow many a Spring playoff beard. He had a passion for jazz and country music and like so many dads attended every dance recital, tennis match, swim meet, violin recital, football and baseball games to cheer on his children and their teams. Jack never flinched from any task whether it be painting, scraping, mending, digging, building, plumbing and he enjoyed planning each project.

Days spent at the beach with family and friends, too many to count, walks with his dogs, and the family trips that he planned were the happiest of times. His family would like to thank the nurses and staff at Cape Cod Hospital and the physicians that cared for him, especially Jeffrey Martens and Peter Chiotellis and the staff at the Wound Care Center.

A celebration of his life and interment for Jack will be held at Saint David's Episcopal Church South Yarmouth MA on May 16th at 11AM.

In lieu of flowers, his family asked that you might consider a donation in his name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital (www.stjude.org) in thanksgiving for the gift of his three healthy grandchildren or to the Cape Cod Healthcare Foundation “Dogs on Call Fund” (www.capecodhealth.org) because of his love of the dogs that shared his life, Ueli and Emmett.
