Beverly Alexander,  96, died peacefully at Rosewood Manor Nursing Home in Harwich, MA on August 29, 2015.
Born on November 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Harry L. Alexander and Laura (Stryker) Alexander.
She graduated from Annapolis (MD) High School, attended Goucher College for one year and then transferred to Radcliffe College where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and received her BA in 1939.  Later she received a Masters degree from Columbia University.
Bev served in the Red Cross during World War II and was stationed in Europe for two years, allowing for reunions with her brother Lewis, who was serving in the military there.
She taught at Pine Manor College for many years where she also served as Director of Public Relations for six years. She retired in 1984, and moved to East Dennis, MA where she pursued her many interests.
Among those interests was a love of the theater. She was a long time member of the Cape Cod Playhouse and performed in a number of its productions.  While at Pine Manor, she regularly taught a popular course that focused on plays being produced in the Boston area.  After retirement she was an active member of the Play Readers of Orleans.  Her idea of a great vacation was to fly to London and go to the theater twice a day.
Bev had acquired a love of sailing with her brother Lewis while growing up in Annapolis. Even in her early eighties, she sailed with her sister and brother-in-law in and around Cape Cod and Block Island.
She enjoyed many years of active retirement. She was involved with the Quivet Neck Homeowners Association, Ladies Aid of East Dennis, Dennis Historical Society, Jacob Sears Memorial Library program committee and the Museum of Natural History as well as enjoying swimming, cooking, reading and traveling.
She leaves her sister Janet Wood, brother-in-law Richard Wood, sister-in-law Jacqueline Alexander, two nephews Lance Alexander and Robert Wood, two nieces Louise Chebert and Karen Wood, four grand nephews and nieces Dane, Drew, Sarah and Emily Chebert, and her friend and caregiver Diane Elliott.  She was preceded in death by her brother, Lewis.

Dear Family, Please accept my deepest sympathy. There is a beautiful promise found at Isaiah 25:8: He will actually swallow up death forever, and He will certainly wipe the tears from all faces. This promise gives us a hope and comfort.
