Dana A. Condit  71 of Brewster died at his home Saturday January 4, 2020.

He was the husband of Gayle J. (Singleton) Condit. They had been married for 47 years.

Born in Boston, Dana was the son of the late Dana S. and Jean (Hungerford) Condit. He attended Brewster elementary school, and graduated from Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School in 1966. Dana served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1969.

Dana and his wife, Gayle lived, for a number of years on Saint Croix. USVI, after which they moved home to Brewster to raise their family and to the town and people who had shaped him. Dana's chimney restoration business brought him work throughout the Cape and Islands and he built a vast network of friends wherever he went. He served on many boards and committees throughout the years and for 40 years was the chairman of both the Millsites Committee and Alewife Committee. He grew up in the house next to the herring run.

Dana loved to travel. He and Gayle shared many adventures on land and sea throughout the U.S.A., Canada and the Caribbean. He was a raconteur, a naturalist, an avid hunter and historian, a loyal friend, and also, a little bit stubborn. Dana loved his family, his town and his Marine Corps.

Dana and his family are so grateful for the cutting-edge treatment provided to him at the Dana Farber Cancer Center and the love of his Doctor and team. The care allowed him to enjoy his life far longer than he had expected.

In addition to his wife, Dana is survived by a son, D. Jason Condit and his wife, Melissa of Brewster; a daughter, Launi Condit and her fiancé, Peter of Charlestown, RI; a brother, Craig Condit and his wife, Lynne of Millbury; and a grandson, Cody. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, Bryant and Harry Condit; and a sister, Faythe Hawley.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday January 18 in the Brewster Cemetery, Lower Road, Brewster.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Cape and Islands Veterans Outreach Center, 247 Stevens St., Suite E, Hyannis, MA 02601 or to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute, 450 Brookline Ave., Boston, MA 02215.

Semper Fi my love.

One of the very first times I ever went scuba diving was with Dana and Duke Swanson early one morning down at Wood end in PTown back in the 70's. When the Sun came up that morning, It appeared huge and bright red, I've never seen it look that "Big" and beautiful since. Thanks, for that memory Dana.. My condolences to Gayle and his family.
