Carol P. Gwynne
Dec 8th, 2019
Yarmouth Port - Carol P. Gwynne passed away peacefully on December 8, 2019 at the age of 96. She was born on October 10, 1923 on Staten Island, NY to Elizabeth (Wemple) and Alfred T. Pouch. She grew up on Staten Island, graduated from SI Academy and attended Skidmore College for two years, at which time she entered the Navy during WW II. She was especially proud of being an aviation machinist as a WAVE, where she worked on airplane engines.
She is survived by her two children, Robert T Connor Jr (Nancy) of Staten Island, NY and Susan C Bird (Norm) of Lowell, IN; two sisters, Helen P. Hinckley and Elizabeth P. Bischoff (Knoest) and her sister-in-law Nancy Pouch. She is also survived by her four grandchildren, Robert Adlard (Corie), Elizabeth Adlard Hochstetler (Tim), Chad and Sean Connor, as well as five great grandchildren, Kaila, Ava, Ella, Connor and Coben. Carol also leaves behind many nieces, nephews, cousins and her good friends of Heatherwood. Carol was predeceased by her brother Alfred Timothy Pouch, Jr. and her brother-in-law Frank Hinckley
In the late 80’s Carol moved to Cape Cod from SI. She attended Dennis Union Church and was active in the Cape Cod Art Center, the Yarmouth Art Guild and with showing and selling her works in numerous galleries throughout the Cape. As a talented artist, her paintings reflected the love she had for “all things Cape Cod” as well as her many travels. “Art is my spiritual response to life. It is through art that I interpret and mentally understand what I see, feel and think”.
As a child her family spent every summer at their cottage in Harwichport, providing years of memories with family and friends. She continued that tradition with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren as recently as last summer.
She will be remembered by the many lives she touched by keeping up with everyone through her letters and phone calls. She will be dearly missed.
A private graveside service is planned later this spring in SI at Moravian Cemetery.
Donations may be made in her memory to Dennis Union Church, 713 Main Street, Dennis, MA 02638. Also, Cape Cod Art Center, 3480 Main Street, Barnstable, MA 02630.
