Ann Loftus

Ann B. Loftus, 79, of Yarmouth Port passed away on September 23, 2019 surrounded by her family at Mayflower Place Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Ann was born Ann Elizabeth Burns in Weymouth, Massachusetts, the daughter of Harold S. Burns and Evelyn R. Burns.
Ann grew up in Norwood, MA and attended school at Beaver Country Day School in Chestnut Hill, Boston and then attended Endicott Junior College in Beverly, MA.
On June 17, 1961 she married John (“Jack”) B. Loftus, Jr. of Old Lyme, CT shortly after his graduation from the U.S. Naval Academy. Over the next twenty years, Ann dedicated her life to raising four children as well as being a Navy wife. During her husband’s four deployments arising from the Vietnam Conflict, some lasting more than a year, Ann was the central force and anchor of the family.
In 1981, Ann and Jack decided to retire from the Navy and move to Vermont. Ann and Jack purchased 80 acres of land on a top of a ridgeline in Sharon, Vermont and built their “Highland Farm” over the next 23 years. During this time Ann developed her passion for creating magnificent gardens and made Highland Farm a magical place for her 12 grandchildren to visit consisting of amazing food, four border collies and sheep.
In 2004, after much thought, Ann and Jack retired to Cape Cod, settling into an antique Cape styled house in village of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts.
Ann is survived by her husband, Jack, of fifty-eight years, daughter Jennifer Dunn and her husband, Howard, and their three children, Savannah, Ford and Lochlann of Meridian Idaho; John B. Loftus III and his wife, Joan, and their three children, Tatiana, Isabel and John IV (“Jack”) of Hanover, New Hampshire; Christopher Loftus and his wife, Kristin and their two children, Parker and Abby, of Chatham, Massachusetts; and daughter, Melinda Headrick and her husband, Robert, and their four children, Grace, Chatham, Sebastian and Lillian, of Maryville, Tennessee.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, September 28, 2019 at 10:00am in Sacred Heart Chapel, Summer St., Yarmouth Port. Interment will follow in Woodside Cemetery.
