Anne E. (Connolly) McCarthy  “Elaine” 87, a longtime East Dennis resident passed to her heavenly reward peacefully Monday April 15, 2019, surrounded by her family, at the Quaboag Rehabilitation and Skilled Center in West Brookfield.

She was the wife of the late Lawrence P. McCarthy who died in 2015. They had been married for nearly 60 years.

Born in Medford, Elaine was the daughter of the late Walter and Mary E. (Rossiter) Connolly. She was a graduate of St. Clement High School and Carney Hospital, Catherine Laboure School of Nursing. She worked as a registered nurse for many years at Carney Hospital, Tufts University, and The Little Sisters of the Poor, Jeanne Jugan Residence.

Elaine raised her family in Somerville and moved to East Dennis in 1992 where she enjoyed family, friends and playing her favorite card game, Bridge. Her greatest joy was spending cherished time with her family.

Elaine is survived by three children, Michael F. and his wife, Heidi of Middleboro, MaryBeth Birkbeck and her husband, Robert of Spencer and William J. and his wife, Cathy of Stamford, CT; thirteen grandchildren, Sean, Scott, Andrew, Christina, Patrick, Matthew, Maria, Faith, and Cathleen McCarthy, Mike Birkbeck and his wife, Mary, Chris Birkbeck, Mario Sciaretta, Stephanie Bernheimer and her husband, Jason; a sister, Bunny Follen; a sister in-law, Linda Connolly; several nieces, nephews and family in Canada. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her brothers and sisters, Francis and William Connolly, Dorothy McGlauflin, Marie Shea, and Jane Horan.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday April 23 in Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Interment will follow in Oak Ridge Cemetery, South Dennis.

Visitation will precede the Mass from 9 to 10:30 a.m. in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Dear MaryBeth & Bill, While I only had the privilege of knowing your mom just briefly, her kindness shone through her actions. She was such a sweet lady and my dad cherished her friendship. She was blessed to have such a close and caring family. My sincere sympathies for your loss, I know she will be greatly missed. Thinking of you. God bless . . Joyce
