Allan Peart Vincent
Aug 27th, 2015
Allan Peart Vincent, Poet and Master Storyteller of Dennis entered this world on Mother’s Day, May 10, 1936, and departed peacefully August 27, 2015, surrounded by his immediate family, at the official age of 79 years, 3 months, and 17 days (although he often operated intermittently between the ages of 14 and 114).
Born and raised in Needham, with the moniker Petey, Allan graduated from Needham H.S. in 1954. Instead of matriculating to Northeastern University as his father had planned and paid for, Allan enlisted in the U. S. Navy. After military service, he enrolled in the University of Massachusetts, graduating in 1962. While on leave from the military and between semesters at college, Allan worked for the Needham Fire Department in all capacities, as needed. After graduation from UMass, Allan joined the Joint War Games Agency, Joint Chiefs of Staff, at the Pentagon. Participating in War Game Olympiad 1-62 were Hollywood director John Ford, "Twilight Zone" creator Rod Serling, and cartoonist Milton Caniff. Convinced that Allan was the “spy” of the war game, Mr. Caniff featured Allan prominently in a “Steve Canyon” series of 1963. Allan was later employed as a high school teacher in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Leaving the teaching profession in 1970, Allan began his employment with the U. S. Treasury Department, retiring in 1996. In retirement Allan was an avid gardener and storyteller to his cherished grandchildren.
Allan is survived by Marla Mountz Vincent, his wife of 51 years, and five children with their spouses: Marcus B. and Deborah Vincent of Vacaville, CA; Dr. Harold T. II and Darlene Vincent of North Kingstown, RI; Christopher A. and Lois Vincent of South Yarmouth, MA; Beth A. and Jeffrey Fanara of Dennis, MA; Raymond C. and Dawn Vincent of West Yarmouth, MA. Grampa had seven grandchildren: Courtney and Jonathan Fanara; Kathryn, Colin, and Connor Vincent of RI; and William and Jacob Vincent. Allan is also survived by his brother Raymond Vincent of Falmouth, his sister Susan Sherman of Largo, FL, their families, and several cousins.
