Clement V. "Buzzy" Smith IV
Mar 5th, 2019
Clement V.” Buzzy” Smith IV, age 59, of Taunton, passed away on March 5, 2019 after battling complications from a car accident nearly nine years ago.
Born in Canton, MA, on October 3, 1959, he was the first-born son of Clement V. Smith III and the late Frances M. (Mullin) Smith. In addition to his father he is also survived by his six siblings: Mary Walker, Rebecca Walsh, Gregory Smith, Joseph Smith, Frances Walsh and Richard Smith. Buzzy was a cool uncle to four nieces and two nephews.
During his life, Buzzy enjoyed summers at Camp Mullin in the Crowe’s Pasture in East Dennis. He would often be found paddling a surf board around Coles Pond and would return with stories of swimming with big snakes and seeing very large turtles. He was always very brave in his adventures, often leaving his siblings envious of his bold endeavors. At the age of 18, Buzzy left home to live in residential housing and began working at his “workshop”. His most favorite job was gummy bears where he would put bags of gummy bears in boxes. He loved to joke with his co-workers and the staff people both at his work and home. He had a contagious laugh and a playful humor that drew people in. When not working, Buzzy loved watching the Three Stooges and going out for coffee. His favorite activity of all time was caring for and wearing his vast collection of wrist watches, sometimes sporting multiple watches on one wrist.
On July 6, 2002, Buzzy was awarded the Cory Kent Achievement Award for the most productive and most improved worker at his work shop. Every year after he won this award, July 6 was named “Clem Day” in honor of his accomplishments, and a celebration took place to commemorate his efforts. Buzzy enjoyed this day very much.
Buzzy was a wonderful older brother and uncle and everyone admired his persistence and toughness in times of great challenges. In March of 2010, he was involved in a car accident which left him wheelchair bound, but it did not dull his tenacity. He faced many physical challenges with the same adventurous spirit which he exhibited as a young teenager. He unknowingly taught his family members lessons in never giving up and always trying your best despite the obstacles and challenges in life that you may encounter.
Family and friends are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Sunday, March 10, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at Saint Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA, March 11, 2019 at 11:00 A.M. Interment will follow in Quivet Cemetery, South Street, East Dennis, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in his name to Cooperative Productions, Inc. 97 Ingell St. Taunton, MA 02780. (Cooperative Productions aims to improve the quality of life through individualized, person-centered activities.)
