BAKER—Sara (Painter) Baker, 95 of Yarmouth Port passed away January 23 after a brief illness. Mrs. Baker was a native of Alexandria, IN, where she was valedictorian of her high school class. She went on to earn a BA in Spanish at Indiana University and a fellowship to study in Mexico in the years right after WWII. In 1950, she married Donald Baker of Massachusetts, and the Bakers moved to Cape Cod in 1956. They were married for 57 years until Donald’s death in 2007. Mrs. Baker was passionate about genealogy. She was a charter member of the Captain Joshua Gray Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and later became State Regent for Massachusetts. She belonged to other historical and genealogical societies including the Mayflower Society. She is survived by her three children: Bruce Baker of Falls Church, VA, Sandra (Rex) Parsons of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Mark Baker of Yarmouth Port. A service will be held at the Federated Church of Hyannis on Saturday, February 2nd at 2pm. Private burial at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Yarmouth Port Library.
