Yarmouth Port – Beverly A. Blais, 81, passed away peacefully on November 17, 2018 at Liberty Commons in Chatham, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Beverly was born in Worcester, MA on April 7, 1937 to parents Winona and Thomas Powell. She spent her childhood in Worcester and Holden, graduating from Wachusett Regional High School in 1955.
Bev raised her own family in Western Mass, Maine, and Yarmouth Port. She spent eight years in Sarasota, FL before finally returning to her beloved Cape Cod. Bev loved living near the beach, and would swim in the ocean whenever she had the chance. Throughout her life, she was employed as a secretary, bank teller, waitress, real estate broker, and social director at a senior community in Florida. Some of Bev’s favorite activities were cooking, sewing, and decorating. She was an excellent cook, baker, and talented seamstress. Bev enjoyed old movies and musicals, and her favorite holiday was Christmas.
Besides her parents, Beverly was predeceased by her foster parents, Richard and Arline Slayton; her husband Richard G. Blais; her step-son Rick Blais; and her former husband Harold F. Cooper.
Bev is survived by her brother, Paul Powell and his wife Jean; her sister Charlene Kirby; her daughter Diana and her husband George; son David Cooper, step-son Jim Blais and his wife Cindy; grandchildren Travis Rowe, Amy Rowe, Brandi Bragaw and her husband Brad, Adam Cooper, Matthew Blais, and Wylie Blais; great-grandchildren Cooper and Carson Bragaw; and many nieces and nephews.
Beverly’s family would like to convey our sincere gratitude to all of her caregivers at Liberty Commons and Broadreach Hospice, who provided the most amazing love and care to all of us through this journey.
Visitation will be held at 11:00am on Friday, November 30, 2018 followed by a memorial service at 12:00pm in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
