P. Nicolas “Nick” Wherity 80 of Brewster died Friday November 9, 2018 at Wingate at Harwich.
He was the husband of Rosalie F. Wherity (Manzi). They had been married for 55 years.
Born in Brockton, Nick was the son of the late Francis H. and Marjorie G. (Bray) Wherity. He was a graduate of Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School in 1955 and from Springfield College with a Master’s Degree in Science.
Nick was a teacher at Stoneham Junior High School from 1962 to 1967. He then moved to Cape Cod in 1967 and taught at D-Y until his retirement in 1982. He also coached football and men’s gymnastics at D-Y. Nick also worked at Snow’s Home & Garden Center in Orleans.
He enjoyed cooking, playing his guitar, fishing, and loved being surrounded by his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also a big fan of the Red Sox, Patriots and Celtics.
In addition to his wife, Nick is survived by a son, Raymond and his wife, Chrissy of Augusta, GA; three daughters, Kimberley Luke and her partner, Kenneth of East Wareham, Heather Crossman of Dennis Port, and Colleen Kelley and her husband, Michael of Pocasset; seven grandchildren, Ashley Luke, Kelsey Parlow, Lyndsey Preservati, Melissa Crossman, Karissa Grasso, Madigan and Sean Kelley; and three great grandchildren, Leonidas, Bella and Alainah. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his son-in-law, Michael Crossman.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday November 20 in Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster.
Interment will be private.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday November 19 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to Springfield College, 263 Alden St., Springfield, MA 01109.

Dear Colleen and family, Both we and our family were so sorry to hear about your Dad's passing. It seems forever ago that we shared those carefree Cape days and the fun and caring we shared with you. Please know that we are still filled with that caring for you and your family, especially in this time of sorrow. Nicole and I will come to the funeral Mass tomorrow since she's working today.
