Winthrop (Win) Vernon Wilbur, Jr. Winthrop Vernon Wilbur, Jr. passed away peacefully on October 20th at his home in Yarmouth Port, with his family by his side. He was 86 years old. Win will be remembered and deeply missed for his love of family, his generosity, and his sense of humor. He is survived by his bride of 65 years, Nancy (Kesten) Wilbur, as well his son, David K. Wilbur of Brewster (wife Deborah), daughters Jane S. Wilbur of Marstons Mills, and Sarah W. Hill (husband David) of Lancaster, NH. He was a loving grandparent to Nathaniel Hill (husband Matthew) of New York City, Morgan Hill of Washington D.C., Jennifer Wilbur (husband Gene) of California, and Daniel Wilbur of Philadelphia, and great grandson Joshua Wilbur Liu. Win was born at the Cape Cod Cottage Hospital in 1931 to Althea E. Simmons and Winthrop V. Wilbur, Sr. of Yarmouth, MA. He was a graduate of Yarmouth High School in 1949 and Brown University in 1953. He was involved in business, charitable organizations, and town affairs most of his life. He owned and operated Airport Motors, Inc. and Central Cape Dodge in Hyannis for over 40 years. He represented New England for the National Lincoln-Mercury Dealer Council and the Dodge Division President’s Council. He was also Past President of the New England Lincoln-Mercury Dealer Association and the New England Dodge Dealer Association. Win was a Past Commodore of the Hyannis Yacht Club, the past President of Oyster Harbors Club in Osterville, Cape Cod Auto Dealer’s Association, and The Better Business Bureau of Cape Cod. He was a former Chairman of the Town of Barnstable Finance Committee, and a 65 year member and former Treasurer of the Federated Church of Hyannis. He was a 50 year member and Past Master of the Howard Lodge AF & AM in South Yarmouth, and a member of the Shrine. He gave generously to Cape Cod Hospital, his church, and other organizations. Win was an avid sailor and yachtsman in the 60’s and 70’s competing with his sloop ‘Cheers’ in the Cruising Class Racing Division of the Hyannis Yacht Club. He enjoyed cruising the Bahamas and East Coast with his family on the ‘Cheers’. Win and Nancy also enjoyed the White Mountains of New Hampshire, where they owned a home on the side of Cabot Mountain in Lancaster for 35 years. When he retired in 1998, he and his wife, Nancy, began a new chapter in their lives traveling the United States, Mexico and Canada in their Patriot motorhome. In 2002 they took their motorhome west during the winter to the warmth of Chula Vista, California, where they wintered for 18 years. Visiting Hours will be Thursday, October 25th from 5-7 PM at Hallett Funeral Home on Station Avenue in South Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Win’s memory to The Federated Church of Hyannis, Shriner’s Hospital for Children in Boston, or Cape Cod Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 6th at 3 PM at the Federated Church of Hyannis.
