Richard K. Cannon

Richard Kimball Cannon recently of Hyannis and formerly of West Yarmouth, passed away unexpectedly on September 10, 2018 at the age of 66. He was the son of the late John Robert and Dorothy Elizabeth (Melzard) Cannon.
Rick was born in Boston and grew up in Centerville, graduating from Barnstable High School in 1970. He served in the Coast Guard Reserves before joining the family business. He was a partner in Canco, a plumbing, heating and septic business and recently owner of Canco Fire Sprinkler Services.
In 1971, at the age of 19, Rick accompanied his father on a trip around the world.
He was introduced to Rotary by Robert Stone becoming a member of the Harwich-Dennis Rotary Club and eventually was a founding member of the Rotary Club of Yarmouth at it’s inception in 1989. He served in many capacities; Sergeant-at-Arms, Helping Hands, Good Works, Meals on Wheels, Children’s Holiday Parties, Golf Tournaments, Youth Exchange, and on the Board of Directors .He was a host parent for an exchange student from Denmark. In addition, he proudly served as President of Yarmouth Rotary from 1998 to 1999, following in the footsteps of his father who had been President of Hyannis Rotary Club.
Rick’s commitment to the mission of Rotary never faltered. He lived the Four- Way Test. His commitment extended to his involvement in the community, willlingly and quietly lending a helping hand wherever needed and without personal recognition. He served on committees for the Town of Yarmouth, served on the Board of Directors for the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce for over twenty years as well as on an advisory committee at Cape Cod Technical High School in Harwich for the plumbing trade. He enjoyed working with students who were learning the trades.
Rick lived a very simple life and loved being around people. Everyone loved him, the two legged and the four legged. He was jovial and easy to talk with. Many have reaped the benefits of his support and kindness. His presence will be forever remembered.
Rick is survived by three brothers; Jeffrey Dean Cannon of and his wife, Cristy, of Yarmouthport, John Scott Cannon of South Yarmouth, and Robert Drew Cannon of West Yarmouth, two sisters; Linda Gail Cannon of Walhalla, SC and Christie Lee (Cannon) and her husband, Eric Sorkin of Clairmont, FL and many nieces,nephews and cousins.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Thursday, September 27, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.. A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 28, 2018 at 1:00 P.M. in the Hallett Funeral Home followed by interment in Ancient Cemetery, Center St.,Yarmouth, MA.
