John D. Correia

Apr 27th, 2018

John D. Correia 78 of Yarmouthport died peacefully at his home Friday April 27, 2018, surrounded by his family, following a brave battle with cancer.

Born on Madeira Island, Portugal, John was the son of the late John G. and Victoria (Dias) Correia. He immigrated with his family to the United States in 1950 and settled in the Taunton area. He spent 8 years in the Army Reserves based out of Attleboro, from 1962 to 1970.

John worked as a meat cutter for various supermarkets in the area and worked part time, until the last few years, at A&P and Stop & Shop.

John loved meeting and talking to people. He, and his wife of 55 years, Karen A. (Guillette) Correia had some wonderful travel adventures. They visited Hawaii, Portugal, Ireland, Bermuda and many trips to Disney with the grandchildren. They also spent three and a half years in Athens and Savannah, Georgia.

A great love of the outdoors, John especially liked being at the beach. Sunday family trips to the shellfish beds in Yarmouth are where you would find John and his family. He was an avid fan of the Patriots and Red Sox. Gardening and cookouts were more of the passions that John and Karen shared together. John always had his beloved dog, Brady by his side.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his three children, David and his wife, Midge of Norwood, Kevin and his fiancé, Tina Baril of Dennis, and Erin Rosecrans and her husband, Hal of Harwich; his grandchildren, Kyle and his wife, Becky, Joshua, Meredith, Ethan and Julia; his great granddaughter, Riley Ann; and his brother, Humberto of Attleboro.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday April 30th in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Burial will follow in Woodside Cemetery, Summer St., Yarmouth Port.

Visitation will be held prior to the service beginning at 12 p.m., in the funeral home.

Memorial donations may be made to Broad Reach Healthcare, 390 Orleans Rd, North Chatham, MA 02650.

Karen, Gail and I send our deepest condolences and thoughts during this very sad times or you and your family. I still think of you and your college friend who sent me that birthday card from Arabia. It sounds like John was a lover of the water and and quahogging. My son Mark, Kenny’s godson , would have liked John. It’s the Portuguese blood on Gail’s side. Again, please accept our prayers. Love and God Bless, Eddie

Karen, Our hearts are broken. We loved John so much. We love you all. We will miss seeing him in the driveway or working in the garage, or planting his flowers, or hosing off those quahogs. He is at peace. Janet and Peter
