Stephen R. Shimer, 74, of Dennis, MA, and Marco Island, Fl, passed away on March 6, 2018, with his wife Lesley by his side. He was born in Waco, TX, but spent much of his youth in Fort Wayne, IN. He attended Perdue University majoring in Biology. He then entered the Army serving in the special forces and as a medic in the Vietnam War. Upon his return from the war he continued his medical career dealing with orthopedic internal fixation devices, spending most of that career with Synthes, North America. As a fisherman and boater, Stephen spent most of his retirement enjoying these endeavors on Cape Cod and Ten Thousand Island, Fl, spending many hours out on the water with his beloved dogs. He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golf, hunting and shooting. He was a terrific cook and a voracious reader. His sense of humor and big beaming smile were his trademarks, he will be sorely missed by all who knew him. Stephen is predeceased by his parents, Ralph and Gloria Shimer of Fort Wayne, IN. He leaves his loving wife Lesley and Piper their yellow lab, his sister Joan Schumacher and her husband Dave from Sebring, Fl, his sister Susan Boyer from Westport, Ct, his sister Kerry Hynek and her husband Larry of Denver, Co his brother in law William Creighton of Dennis and sister in law Jane and husband John Carlson of Kittery Point, Me. He also leaves behind many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held for Stephen on June 2, 2018 at 1pm at the Dennis Union Church in Dennis, Ma.
