Mary Jeanette (Laforet) Lothrop
Jan 3rd, 2018
Mary Jeanette (Laforet) Lothrop, one month shy of her 95th birthday, passed away peacefully January 3, 2018, surrounded by her loving family.
Jeannie was born and raised in East Boston. After graduating from East Boston High School she enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps, looking for a new way of life and in support of the war effort. She served our country proudly during World War II. She was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1945. Most importantly, it was during this time of her military service, that she met and married her beloved husband of 70 years, Paul Bowen Lothrop.
After their discharge from the service, Paul and Jeannie moved to Weymouth in 1947, where they lovingly raised their family, and formed life-long bonds of friendship with four other couples, the Fuciles, Hopkins, Fortunas, and Sullivans. After retiring they moved to Centerville, and subsequently to Royal Palm Beach, FL. Following the passing of her husband, Jeannie returned to Cape Cod.
Jeannie was known for her great love of family and friends, her kindness and compassion to all, her strength and most of all her gratitude for all things and love of her life. She would always say, "I love my life!" She was like, "another mother" to so many people who called her "Nina", and turned to her for support and her words of wisdom. There were no unkind words in her vocabulary.
Jeannie is survived by her loving children, Karen Marie Lothrop of Yarmouthport, Robert Lothrop of Harwich, Mary-Lee Baker of Port St. Lucie FL, and Richard Lothrop of Boynton Beach, FL; a brother, Robert Laforet of Costa Rica; and a sister, Helen Morris of Melrose. In addition to her husband, she was pre-deceased by two sons Paul and James Lothrop. Her pride and joy, were her daughters-in-law, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, all of whom gave such love and care to her in her final days.
Jeannie’s family wishes to thank the staff at Pleasant Bay Nursing and Rehab for their wonderful care.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. Friday May 11 in Our Lady Of Victory Church, 230 South Main St., Centerville.
Interment will follow at 12:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one's choice.

Thanks Mer & Steve!! Love you so much for sharing your memories!! Love you both!! XXOO Leele
Dear Lee, Karen, Robert and Rich along with all the Lothrop family, extended family and friends. Nina was a such a love. I will miss her so much, more that you know. I was her "daughter from another mother" as I used to say to her. And she had many "others" to add to the list in addition to me and Steve. I have such fond memories of Nina in the kitchen on Esterbrook Rd baking her famous toll house cookies and brownies (so grateful to have the recipes.) Nina would take us to riding lessons, swim lessons and taxi us around to events and to see friends. Pool parties were plentiful and hosting at the Cape and Florida will be a treasure always. Nina loved her life and everyone in it. Steve and I were privileged to have known her and will miss our visits at Pleasant Bay. We love you from the heel of our foot, the expression she always said. We will never forget you. Love you always, Merry and Steve XOXO
