Alan W. Johnson 92 of Yarmouth Port died from heart failure Monday October 2, 2017 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the devoted husband of Dolores (Fabiano) Meskunas Johnson for 31 years.
Born and raised in Chicago, IL, Alan became a skilled clarinet player, performing at community functions. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a carrier pilot with the air forces aboard the USS Saipan during World War II.
After the war, he completed his undergraduate degree at Purdue University and received his MBA from the University of Chicago Business School.
Alan was a successful business man, becoming owner and president of the International Dampney Company, a chemical and paint coating business in Everett. He customized coatings for commercial buildings in foreign countries including China and India.
Alan was a golf enthusiast and a member of the Kings Way Golf Club. He was very proud of his two hole-in-ones on the course.
In addition to his wife, Alan is survived by a son, Alan W. Johnson, Jr. of Sudbury; a daughter, Martha Neie of Lakewood, IL; four grandchildren, Emily Venske, Brett Neie, and Jennifer and Julia Johnson; two step sons, Jack Meskunas of Greenwich, CT, and Paul Meskunas of Berlin, Germany; and six step grandchildren, Dr. Chelsea Hesterman, John, Dr. Haley, Luke, Fay and Ruby Meskunas.
The family is grateful for the excellent care Alan received by the staff at Cape Cod Hospital.
Funeral services will be private.

I was very sad to hear of Alan's passing. I worked with Al for thirty years at the Dampney Company. I respected him for his intelligence, his research ability and his integrity. I valued his friendship. My sympathies to his family. Ray Pavlik
