Laurence Freeman Ellis, Sr., 92, of West Yarmouth, passed in his sleep at home on Thursday, September 28, 2017. He was the husband for 55 years of the late Jane (Roper) Ellis who passed in 2003. Born on Sea Street in East Dennis, son of the late Edwin and Morena (Walker) Ellis, Larry graduated from the Yarmouth School System. Following his service in the Army Air Corp during World War II, he received his Associate’s Degree in Accounting from Becker College. Larry worked at H.B. Hood & Sons for 33 years as a refrigeration technician and retired after 10 years as a field technician at the Town of Yarmouth Water Department. Larry was on the Dennis-Yarmouth School Committee from 1966-1975. He was a member of the Lions Club and an avid collector of stamps and antique firearms. He loved watching sports, especially the Red Sox. Larry leaves behind his daughter, Deborah J. Marceau & husband, Frederick, of Hyannis; sons, Reid C. Ellis & wife, Sharon F. Ellis, of Harwich; and Laurence F. Ellis, Jr., & wife, Carolyn E. Ellis, of Dennisport. Also surviving are Larry’s grandchildren, Emalee Colvin of Louisiana, Reid C. Ellis, Jr., USMC of San Diego, Kayley A. Ellis and Kevin L. Ellis, both of Dennisport. In addition to his wife and parents, Larry is predeceased by his first granddaughter, Amie Stepenuck(1989), and his brother Charles “Chuck” Ellis(2014). Visiting hours will be held Wednesday, October 4th, from 2-4pm, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave, South Yarmouth. Burial will be private.
