Arlen K. Shaw 78 of Yarmouth Port and formerly of Mansfield and Dennis died unexpectedly Thursday September 21, 2017 at Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis.
He was the husband of Mary Louise (Pedini) Shaw. They had been married for 58 years.
Born, raised and educated in Canisteo, NY, Mr. Shaw was the son of the late Freeman and Grace (Lewis) Shaw. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal in 1963.
For 45 years, Mr. Shaw owned and operated Shaw’s Servicenter in Mansfield.
An enthusiastic sports fan, Mr. Shaw was an avid golfer and enjoyed playing poker with his friends.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Shaw is survived by two sons, Arlen of Swansea, and Tony and his wife, Lisa of Mansfield; three daughters, Rosemarie Shaw Foss and her husband, Bob of Sarasota, FL, Deb and her wife, Cheryl of Rumford, RI, and Diana of Dennis; a brother, Freeman Shaw, Jr. of Punta Gorda, FL; two sisters, Lorna Dammert of Macedon, NY, and Sharon Good of Harrisburg, PA; seven grandchildren, Arlen, Andrew, Katie, Kevin, Samantha, John and Laurel; two great grandchildren, Jaxon and Evelyn Jade; the family dog, Chowdah; and several nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday Sept. 26 in St. Pius X Church, Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
Interment will follow at 1:15 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
Visiting hours will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday Sept. 25 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114.

Just heard of Arlen's passing yesterday. So very sorry. I had the pleasure of playing golf on the Cape with him in Dennis many times over the years. A wonderful guy.
I remember many years working the pumps at Shaw's Mobil. Your father and husband was a strong influence during my high school and college years. I will always remember he put a lot of thought he put info a letter of recommendation he wrote for me for college, drafting it twice. A great influence, role model, and friend. I am very sorry for the loss you are feeling. The world was better with men like him.

Mary Lou, So sorry for your loss. Guess I will always remember Arlen when hearing New York New York. He was such a great guy. Also remember his cooking of pancakes with smiley faces when us gals visited you. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family...
To Mary Lou and your family, Fifty years has elapsed since we met you and Bob. Even though we were just acquaintances, the Shaw name always represented hard working and trustworthy people in Town.
