Clifton R. Ellis
Sep 15th, 2017
Clifton R. Ellis 91 of South Yarmouth and formerly of West Dennis died Friday September 15, 2017.
He was the beloved husband of the late Alice C. (Willette) Ellis who died in 2003. They had been married for 50 years. He was also the father of the late David R. Ellis who died in 2004.
Born in Hyannis, Cliff was the son of the late Archie and Susan Ellis. He was a graduate of the Dennis-Yarmouth school system and the Old Colony Trade School.
Cliff worked as a master plumber for many years before he went to work for the former Cape and Vineyard Electric Company. He retired in 1987, after 30 years of service.
A former member of the Dennis Planning Board, Cliff was also a charter member of the Dennis Conservation Committee, during which time the Fresh Pond Conservation Area and the Dennis Indian Lakes Conservation Area was established. Cliff also served as a volunteer firefighter in Dennis for over 25 years.
Cliff’s greatest pleasures were spending time with his family. He was an avid outdoorsman, having a passion for hunting and fishing. He seldom missed a Fall hunting trip to Maine. Over the years, Cliff owned several boats and enjoyed fishing in Nantucket Sound and Cape Cod Bay. In the summer, he and Alice could always be found together lobstering or tuna fishing on their boat, The Yankee, out of Sesuit Harbor.
Cliff is survived by his loving daughter, Deborah Foley of Falmouth, her husband, James, and their son Bryan; a brother in-law, Edward Olkkola of Yarmouth Port; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be private.
As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Dennis Fire and Rescue, 883 Main St., West Dennis, MA 02670.
