Vasileos “Val” Collias passed away peacefully at his West Yarmouth home on September 9 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Haverhill in 1934 to Theoni and Christos Collias. His parents had emigrated from Greece and he was always very proud of his Greek heritage and his go-getting spirit that developed while growing up in Haverhill. He put himself through trade school and developed into an accomplished hair stylist. Val moved to Cape Cod in 1967 and opened up Ro-Val’s hair salon and eventually Salon De JA Vu on Main St. Hyannis. He built a successful business that lasted over thirty five years with such notable clients as Rose Kennedy and Tony Bennet. Val was truly in his element while working at his shop. Salon De JA Vu was a focal point for customers and friends to pop in and Val became the unofficial “Mayor of Main St.” He was always willing to lend a hand to anyone who needed it; generous with advice, counsel, or a hand out. Val was quite a story teller and natural born joke teller that loved to laugh with friends. Val was many things to many people. In his colorful life he wore many hats: Hair Dresser, Entrepreneur, Real Estate Investor, Builder, Banker, and Multi-level Marketer. His passions included golf, billiards, dogs, classic cars, good cigars, and family. He won the commissioners cup at Bass River Golf course twice and was winning billiard tournaments well into his 70’s at the Elks Lodge in Hyannis. He loved driving down Main St. with the top down of his black 1961 Cadillac convertible that resembled the bat mobile. He relished having his kids in tow, his favorite dog Dancer at his side, while waving to the many friends that he knew on Main St. Val will be forever missed by the many lives he touched. He was larger than life to all that knew him. Val will be missed by his son Christian Collias, his wife Julie, and their children Alison and Nick, of Natick, MA; Curtis Collias, his wife Maura, and their children Ronan and Theoni, of Chatham, MA; his daughter and caretaker Alexandra and her children Eva, William, and Kia, of West Yarmouth, MA; his son Jason Custodie of Boston, his daughter Susan Naber of Buxton, ME; his Sister Athena (Tina) Taloumis, of Harwich, MA; his Nephew Chris Taloumis his wife Jill , and their children Tess and Eli ,of Chatham, MA. Visiting hours, with a time to share memories, will be held Wednesday, September 13th from 3-5pm in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth. Funeral Service will take place at 11:30 am on Thursday, September 14 in the St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1130 Falmouth RD, Centerville, with burial to follow at Island Pond Cemetery in Harwich. In lieu of flowers memorial donations are requested to be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation at www.alz.org or to the St. George Greek Orthodox Church at www.stgeorge-capecod.com .

To the Collias family: May Val's memory be everlasting . We had some great times playing golf and cards over the years.

So sorry to hear of Val passing. He was a great friend. It's hard to understand why people are taken from us, but find comfort in knowing you were a special part of a well-lived life.
