Lora "Dusty" (Byrnes) David Barley
Jul 15th, 2017
Lora “Dusty” (Byrnes) David Barley, 79, of West Yarmouth, Massachusetts, died on July 15, 2017 at The Cape Cod Hospital in Hyannis, Massachusetts. She was born November 2, 1937 in Cambridge, MA, the daughter of the late Hester and Harold Byrnes. Dusty was raised in the Boston/Cambridge area and graduated from Cambridge Latin High School.
Dusty enlisted in the U.S. Navy soon after graduation and became a Third- Class Radiowoman. After the service, Dusty held many different jobs. All involved office work and helping others. Dusty was very active and worked until several weeks ago when she became ill.
Dusty was, as she put it, “lucky to find three men who truly loved her for who she was”: Patrick Gregory, Bob David, and George Barley. Unfortunately, all three died too young. Dusty was able to pick up and go on with life. She was always helping others and trusting in the Lord. She was very involved with her church and the YCGA community where she lived.
Prior to moving to West Yarmouth, she lived in Chelmsford, MA and was an integral member of Aldersgate Methodist Church. Since moving to the Cape, she has been an active member of The South Yarmouth United Methodist Church. Recently, when choosing a rehabilitation center, she was adamant that it be near her church and home so her friends could visit.
In addition to her sister, Flory Gardiner, Dusty is survived by Trevor David Drury, Conor David Drury, Raymond Drury, Kenneth David, Keith David, Susan Smith, Stephanie Ellingsworth, Lauren Gansemer, Shane Smith, Joanne Hajduk, Matthew Hajduk, Kristyn Walton, Donald Barley and many nieces, nephews and great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, her daughters, Sarah Jan David and Beth David-Hower, her sister, Donna, and brother, Lennie.
Dusty’s Life Celebration will be held on Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 4PM at the South Yarmouth United Methodist Church, 324 Old Main St, South Yarmouth, MA, 02664. Donations in memory of Dusty may be made to the MSPCA-Angell-CapeCod 1577 Falmouth Rd, Centerville, MA 02632. https://www.mspca.org/donate-now
