Joseph Alexander Rubino Jr., of West Yarmouth, passed peacefully on July 9, 2017, with his wife and 5 children by his side. Born on July 22, 1925, he was just shy of 92 years young. He was the oldest of 3 boys raised by his parents, the late Joseph A. Sr. and Mary Rubino, and was brought up in Torrington, CT. His grandparents, the late Vincenzo and Lucia, were both from Arellano, Italy. While attending Torrington public schools during the Great Depression, he started caddying at the Torrington Country Club at age 10 and gave all the money he made to his mother. After graduating high school in 1942, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy a year later. After finishing boot camp, he attended Radio School in Pennsylvania, trained with the U.S. Marines in California, and was stationed in Okinawa, HA, where he landed during battle and served as Radioman 2C, communicating with ships at sea. During this time, he received a Battlestar for Under Action. After his discharge in 1946, he entered Rider University on the G.I. Bill of Rights where he met his wife of 69 years, Helen. He also attended summer classes to obtain his degree in Business Administration/Journalism (Cum Laude) in three years. During 1950, he went to work for Electrolux Corp, in New York City and was editor for the weekly newspaper for salesmen, and the monthly magazine for factory employees in Greenwich, CT. In 1960, he transferred to the Chicago office and established the first regional sales office covering 11 states and produced sales in excess of $1 million. He moved his family to Cape Cod in 1964 to join Screencraft in Yarmouth which manufactured gift items sold in New England, and was responsible for hiring manufacturer reps which increased sales five-fold. He was also a member of Cummaquid Golf Club where he was the first club president to preside after it expanded to an 18 hole course. Also, having worked on PGA, LPGA, USGA, celebrity tours and mini tours, he joined the tournament staff of the New England PGA where he ran tournaments during the summer months. He was honored for his contributions to golf by the Boston Area Golf Writers. Later in life, he was very active in the Town of Yarmouth, serving on both the cable and golf committees. After winning a seat and serving as a Yarmouth selectman, he was Chairman of the Council on Aging for 5 years. In 1996, he retired with his wife to Deerfield Beach, FL, while still returning to Cape Cod during the summer months to continue his duties with the NEPGA. While living in Florida, and already becoming the president of his 24 unit condo building, he became active in the condo community administration, a member of the cable committee, and chairman of his area, which included over 700 units. In 2015, they both moved back to Cape Cod to be near family, and lived with his daughter and husband up until his passing. He is survived by his wife, Helen, his five children, Terry, Greg, Jeff, Tom and Dave, their spouses, four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A graveside service will be held Friday, July 21, 2017 at 11:15AM, in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, MacArthur Blvd., Bourne. A small gathering will take place after the service at the home of his daughter. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Davenport Mugar Cancer Center, 27 Park Street, Hyannis, MA 02601
