Rostislav Vasicek

Vasicek, Rostislav, ”Rusty” J. 95 of South Yarmouth died Thursday May 7, 2015 at the McCarthy Care Center in Sandwich. He was the husband of the late Helen A. (Jiricek) Vasicek.
Born in Mutenice, Czechoslovakia, Rusty was the son of the late Franck and Frantiska (Kratovil) Vasicek. He emigrated to the United States in 1923 and was raised and educated in Baltimore, MD. He graduated from Glen Burnie High School and from the Chicago Technical College with a diploma in refrigeration and Air Conditioning.
Rusty served in the U.S. Army with the 1322nd Service Command Unit during World War II and was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant in 1946.
A member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local 486 in Baltimore, Rusty worked as a mechanic in the refrigeration and air conditioning business for many years.
An accomplished musician, Rusty began taking violin lessons at the age of 7 and he could also play several instruments by ear, including the accordion.
He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Rusty was an avid golfer and became quite good at the game. His favorite food was steamed crabs, “Baltimore style”.
Rusty’s proudest moment was being awarded the #1 Fan Award from by the Barnstable High School Girls JV Volleyball team.
Rusty is survived by his daughter, Mary Kilburn and her husband C. William of South Yarmouth; two grandchildren, W. Garth Kilburn and his wife, Christie of Nashville, TN, and Amy L. Charron of Hyannis; and four great grandchildren.
Funeral Services will be private.
