Georgette W. (Murray) McIntire 95 of Chatham, MA died Monday April 24, 2017 at Liberty Commons Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Chatham.
She was the wife of the late Billie Bert McIntire who died in 1996. They had been married for 54 years.
Born in New Shoreham, RI, Mrs. McIntire was the daughter of the late James and Marie (Youngs) Murray. She was a member of the Primitive Methodist Church. Georgette graduated from Block Island High School.
Mrs. McIntire worked in Providence, RI during World War II where she met Billie, who was stationed with the Navy in New London, CT. They lived briefly in Portsmouth, NH. After the war, she lived in Parkersburg, WV before moving to Charlestown, RI, where she lived for forty-five years. During those years, she worked at Chariho High School, W.T. Grant, Sun Chemical, and Leviton. In later years, she moved to Marlborough, MA and Chatham, MA to be near family. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Charlestown, RI at Quonochontaug, the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the American Legion Auxiliary. During her ten years in Marlborough, she was active in the Memorial Congregational Church of Sudbury, MA. Georgette made friends wherever she went, and she loved animals, especially dogs.
Mrs. McIntire is survived by a son, Sanford E. McIntire and his wife, Donna of Charlestown, RI; two daughters, Sharon DeCarlo and her husband, Robert of East Dennis, MA, and Beth Lowrie and her husband, Jim of Breckinridge, CO; six grandchildren, Jaye Schneider, Sean McIntire, Stephen Wood, Erin Fish, and Kerry and Karl Wahl; and is lovingly known as GG to her eight great grandchildren, Rachel and Kaylie Louis, Lauren Fish, Megan, Harrison, and Jillian Schneider, and Natalia and Luke McIntire.
A celebration of Georgette’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday May 6 in the First Baptist Church of Charlestown, RI at Quonochontaug, 5073 Old Post Rd, Charlestown, RI 02813.
Interment will be private at Island Cemetery, Block Island, RI.
