Avis (White) Cayton

Avis (White) Cayton, formerly of South Yarmouth, passed away on March 13, 2017 at the age of 91. She was the wife of the late Edward Leo Cayton.
Mrs. Cayton was born in Taunton, MA on June 8, 1925 to George and Ruth (Taylor) White. She grew up and attended schools in Taunton. For most of her life, she worked as a clerk for A & P in South Yarmouth, Bradlees in Taunton and Dennisport, and Liggett’s Pharmacy in Taunton.
Fun loving, feisty and a spit-fire she was always a Mom. She loved homemaking, sewing, and gardening, and was an avid card player and bingo participant at Wingate. Vacations in New Hampshire and visits to Clark’s Trading Post were special times for her.
She was a member of the Dennis Union Church in Dennis and a proud member of the Daughters of Veterans of Foreign Wars.
She was the mother of Avis Carter, Edward Cayton and his wife, Donna, David Cayton and his wife, Cynthia, Goerge Cayton and his wife, Joan, Cynthia Hackett, Timothy Cayton and his wife, Kathy, Lisa Botelho and her husband, Stephen, and Martha Brigham and her husband, Lee. Also surviving is one sister, Pheobe Robinson, a sister-in-law, Beverly White, 20 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a grandson, Stephen Botelho Jr., son-in-law, Arthur Carter and brother, James White.
Avis formed many friendships with the staff and residents at Wingate of Harwich and her family would like to thank the staff for their loving care.
Friends and relatives are invited to call at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth, MA on Thursday, March 30, 2017 from 10 A.M. to 12 noon. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. in the Dennis Union Church after the visitation. Interment in Chandler Gray Cemetery, West Yarmouth, MA.
