Barbara F. (Lanigan) Curran

Barbara F. (Lanigan) Curran or “Babs” as her friends and family knew her, died peacefully in her home March 11, 2017 surrounded by her loving children. She was predeceased by her devoted husband, Dr. John F. Curran, Jr., her parents, Harry and Margaret (Donahue) Lanigan, and her sister, Pat Fioretti. She is survived by her six children, Janet Lappen and her husband, Richard of Boulder, CO, Patty Platika of Sandwich, Jay Curran and his wife, Loren of Guilford CT, Marianne Tawa and her husband Nick of Medfield, Mark Curran of Chattanooga TN, and Deirdre Huff and her husband Clint of Groton; fifteen grandchildren; two great grandchildren; her sister, Sue Forlizzi of Brewster and Stoneham; and several nieces and nephews.
Barbara grew up in Medford and attended Girl’s Catholic High School. She graduated from Carney Hospital School of Nursing where she met her future husband. Barbara and Bud were married in September 1950 and lived in Worcester where they raised their family.
Barbara’s subsequent career was in the travel industry, where she worked as a travel agent and had the opportunity to travel extensively, a passion she thoroughly enjoyed. In addition to caring for her family, she was active in many volunteer organizations, including the Worcester City Hospital Women’s Auxiliary.
Barbara and Bud retired to Dennis in 1983. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren on Cape Cod and was involved in a variety of organizations. Barbara was a member of the Garden Club, volunteered at the Cancer Consignment Shop, the Cape Cod Museum of Fine Arts, and as a docent at the Josiah Dennis Manse.
An avid reader and bridge player, Barbara made many friends on the Cape that filled her retirement years with much joy. She and Bud were lifelong members of Our Lady of the Cape Church in Brewster, where her family celebrated many significant life events.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday March 17 in Our Lady of the Cape Church, 468 Stony Brook Rd., Brewster.
Interment will follow in Brewster Cemetery, Lower Rd., Brewster.

I have fond memories of working with Barbara at Port World Travel in the '80's, I admired her for many reasons, mostly her devotion to Bud and her children, she spoke of them often, and lovingly. God bless.
