Abigail C. McGuire
Jan 21st, 2017
Abigail C. McGuire, Esq., 57, passed away at home amongst loving family and friends on January 21st, 2017 after a courageous, year-long battle with pancreatic cancer. She was born 12/27/1959 in NYC before moving to the Cape with her family as a very young child. She grew up in East Dennis, graduated with the D-Y High class of ’77, earned a B.A. degree from Southeastern Mass University in 1984 and finally graduated Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor from the New England School of Law in 1990. Abigail is predeceased by her mother, Mary-Jo (Collins) McGuire, her father Paul C. McGuire and younger brother Harding McGuire. She is survived by a large and loving family to whom she was devoted. Her sisters Rebecca Sherwood and husband Robert of Waupun, WI and Orianna Brown and husband Michael of Conneaut, OH; her brothers Charles McGuire and partner Rose Clapper of Fitchburg, MA, Thomas McGuire and wife Judy of Rockland, MA and James McGuire and wife Amanda of Marshfield, MA. In addition, she leaves her nieces and nephews; Bethany, Jessica and Kyle Sherwood, Erin and Caitlyn McGuire, Forest and Oliver McGuire, and Harding, Gabrielle and Molly Brown. Abigail will be greatly missed by several aunts, uncles, and cousins, especially Aunt Gabrielle McErlean. Abby held a deep affection for and devotion to her large family, a steadfast loyalty to her many friends and an unassailable work ethic to her employments. A great sadness at her death yet a greater appreciation for her life is left with her family and also her friends; treasured friend Kelly Jason of Cotuit, MA and best friend of 54 years, Lisa D’Abre of East Dennis, MA. Abigail fought her cancer with characteristically uncomplaining courage and fortitude and was very grateful for the extraordinary care and support both she and her family received from her colleagues at the Tedeschi’s in East Dennis, the pharmacy staff at Rite Aid in Yarmouthport and the hospice and clinical service teams from Cape Cod VNA, especially Lisa Byrne, RN. Visiting hours for Abigail will be held from 3p.m. to 6p.m. on January 25th at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave in South Yarmouth, followed by a family graveside service at 10a.m. the next morning at the Quivet Neck Cemetery, 300 South Street, East Dennis. Donations may be made in Abigail’s name to the Friends of Jacob Sears Memorial Library in East Dennis, MA, 02641.
