 Forrest A. Eaton Sr., 86, of Brewster, formerly of Harwich, died Tuesday, Jan. 15, 2013, at Epoch Senior Healthcare Center of Brewster after a period of failing health. He was born on March 20, 1926, in North Reading, Mass., to Bernard and Elsie (Anderson) Eaton. Following graduation from high school, he joined the Navy, serving in the Pacific during World War II. He then attended New England Institute of Embalming and Anatomical Sciences, becoming a licensed funeral director. In 1952 he moved from Medford to Harwich, where he made his home for the next 59 years. He established his own funeral business in 1960, which he ran until his retirement in 1991. He was also active in many civic and community organizations, including Harwich-Dennis Rotary Club, American Legion, Boy Scouts, Epac Grotto, and Eastern Star. He was a 32 degree Mason and served on a number of town committees. For the past year, he resided at Brewster Place Assisted Living. Forrest is survived by his children: Donna Eaton Mahoney and her husband David of Falmouth, Forrest "Al" Eaton Jr. and his wife Barbara (Prindle) of Harwich, Wendy Eaton Grossman and her husband Alan of Metuchen, N.J., Allyson Eaton and her fiancé Marc D'Amore of Wilbraham, Ronald Eaton and his wife Sarah (Freeman) of Harwich, Greg Eaton and his wife Debbie (Chipman) of Newbury, Vt., and Michelle Arena of South Hadley; as well as 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He also leaves six siblings: Everard Eaton of Wilmington and New Jersey, Joyce Dalton of Wilmington, Bernard Eaton of Maine, Verlie Quinan of Centerville, Verna Richard of Tewksbury, and Wayne Eaton of South Harwich He was predeceased by his wife, Mae (Arena) Eaton, former wife Pearl (Harnum) Fish, brother Ronald D. Eaton, and sister Eva Brown. A visiting hour will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, followed by a funeral service at 2 p.m. at the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth. Burial will be private. His family would like to express their appreciation to the many dedicated and compassionate people who have provided care to Forrest over the past several months, especially those at Epoch Senior Healthcare of Brewster.
