Walter Edward Holmes

Walter Edward Holmes of South Yarmouth, MA passed away on December 31, 2016 at the age of 88.  He was the husband of Patricia Ann (VanDyke) Holmes, “The Love of His Life”.
 
Born in North Easton, MA on February 17, 1928, he was one of eleven children born to Francis and Marian (Hall) Holmes   He grew up in North Easton  and graduated from Oliver Ames High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball and especially football.
 
From 1946 to 1947 he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan, where he trained pilots.
 
For over 30 years, Walter owned and operated D-Y Tile and Linoleum. in South Yarmouth, MA. He was a great and competitive golfer on most of the golf courses across Cape Cod.
 
In addition to  his wife of nearly 70 years, Patricia Ann (VanDyke) Holmes, he leaves behind one sister, Dorothy St. Hilaire.  He was the greatest father to  Christine  (Holmes) Clark and her husband, Robert, of Texas, Craig E. Holmes and his wife, Patricia of Yarmouthport, MA,and Vicki Holmes- McDevitt of Mashpee, MA  Also surviving are his  grandchildren, Jessica Pratt, and her husband, Daniel, Amanda Smith and her husband, Benjamin, Chad Miller and Joshua Miller and his wife, Stephanie; two great grandchildren, Logan and Riley Miller, several nieces and nephews. His loving and strong presence in this family will be forever missed.

SERVICES previously scheduled for Thursday, January 12, 2017 have been POSTPONED due to the
death of his wife, Patricia Holmes.  Services for both will be announced.

Vicki I am so sorry for your loss. Your constant care of your mom and dad has always amazed me. How one woman can do what you have done is beyond me. Your love for your parents has been your driving force. I know your loss is painful yet there is no doubt that you will have peace of mind that you gave him the best of care.
