James Edward Kelley 52 of West Dennis died unexpectedly Monday October 3, 2016, of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

Born in Boston, Jim was the son of the late Franklin and Elizabeth Jane (Hughes) Kelley. He was a 1982 graduate of Dennis Yarmouth Regional High School.

Jim enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was given the opportunity to travel to over 40 countries. He served on the USS Nimitz until he was honorably discharged in 1989.

Upon returning to civilian live, Jim launched his own business as a computer architect who specialized in securities and program development working with Microsoft and many other companies. His passion was to give back to his fellow veterans to provide them with the skills, free of charge, to ease the transition returning to the civilian workforce. Returning home to Cape Cod recently, Jim’s business flourished and he branched out into other realms of the techie world.

He loved fishing and hunting and found himself travelling to meet his friends coast to coast because no distance could measure his friendships. Happiness is only real when it’s shared.

Before starting his day as a business owner, Jim shared the love of the sea with his dogs, Fenway and Ike. He recently was seen sipping his coffee and reading his paper with a tide chart in hand, watching the day break over West Dennis beach.

When friends and family gathered Jimmy would be there in the center drawing everyone closer to his amazing light and presence.

If you thought we would forget to mention he was a huge Boston Bruin’s fan, we didn’t. “Go Bruins!”

Jim is survived by his fiancée, Janelle Ionn of Montreal, Canada; his siblings, Judith Gorham of Harwich, John Kelley of Dennis Port, Thomas Kelley of Chatham, Brian Kelley of Barnstable, Susan Jusell of Dennis Port, and William Kelley of Dennis Port; many nieces and nephews; great friends at every port, especially Dennis Port; and of course his dog, Ike.

If you didn’t love Jim, you didn’t know him. If you want to spend time with Jim, you can find him at West Dennis Beach. Go walk a mile with him.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday October 17 in Holy Trinity Church, 246 Main St., West Harwich.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday October 16 in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

As an expression of sympathy, memorial donations may be made to the Disabled American Vets, 980 Industrial Drive, Sterling, IL 61081. https://www.dav.org.
