Milo E. Webster

Milo E. Webster passed away at the age of 91 on Tuesday, August 23, 2016. He was the beloved husband of Joyce (Gresens) Webster, his wife of 62 years, and the father of Mylene J. Adams of Berkley, MA, Milo E. Webster Jr. of New Bedford, MA and Randall A. Webster of Yarmouth, MA. He was the brother of  three sisters and two brothers; Gail Bishop of Melbourne, FL; the late Donalda Drew of Churchville, NY, and the late Mary Kimber of Melbourne, FL; Frank R. Webster of Honeoye, NY and Steven Webster of Victor, NY. He also leaves three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was born on December 7, 1925 in Rochester, NY. He had nearly completed training as a B-29 Flight Engineer in the Army Air Corp when World War II ended in 1945. He received a Degree in Mechanical Engineering from General Motors Institute in Flint, MI in 1951 and was a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers and also a Registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in Massachusetts. He was a prolific inventor, having been granted 57 U.S. patents during his lifetime. As Vice President of R & D, Engineering & Manufacturing at Bernzomatic Corp. in Rochester, NY Milo was granted 26 patents involving portable propane torches, stoves, lanterns, refrigerators and disposable propane cylinders. He joined The Gillette Company in 1966 and was a Principal Engineer in their Advanced Technology Laboratory in Cambridge, MA. He was granted 17 patents in the fields of aerosol valves, aerosol systems and disposable lighters while at Gillette. He moved to Instrumentation Laboratories in Lexington, MA in 1978 and was granted 6 patents in the field of Clinical Diagnostics Instrumentation. After leaving Instrumentation Labs in 1986 he formed Webster Associates and was a consultant in the field of Biomedical Engineering. Later, he co-founded Integrated Fluidics Company where he was granted 6 patents that related to the utilization of microfluidics in biomedical and life sciences applications. He retired in 1999 at the age of 74. He enjoyed sailing and for many years participated in singlehanded races from Provincetown to Tenants Harbor, Maine. The races, called “The Monhegan Challenge”, were run for the benefit of the Children’s Hospital in Boston. Funeral services will be held privately for his immediate family.
