Wilbur Eric Johnson
Jun 11th, 2016
Wilbur Eric Johnson, 89, of West Yarmouth, formerly of New Bedford, passed away peacefully on June 11, 2016, with his two sons by his side. He was the beloved husband of the late Phyllis (Carriero) Johnson, the love of his life for 64 years.
Born, raised and educated in New Bedford, Mr. Johnson began his career as an auto mechanic with the New Bedford Standard Times. He moved to Cape Cod around 1949 and was married to Phyllis in September, 1950.
For eighteen years, Wilbur worked for Moore Motors, as well as Airport Motors in Hyannis. In the mid-sixties, Wilbur was then employed by the United States Coast Guard as a maintenance mechanic. He was most proud of his accomplishments while installing and maintaining the “Aids to Navigation” on many Historic New England Lighthouses. Willy retired after twenty years, then went on to work with his son, Eric, at his business, A.C. Radiator in Hyannis until the business was sold.
Wilbur was the devoted father of two sons, Michael and his wife, Lucinda, and Eric and his wife, Wanda; loving grandfather of Eric and his wife, Sally, Emily, Ian, Ryan, Michael and his wife, Kara, and Elizabeth; proud great grandfather of Cameron, Devyn, Jared, Lincoln, Mason and Lily. Also surviving are his brothers Charles and Benjamin and wife, Marie; many nieces and nephews, and his dear devoted friend, Jimmy Walker and his wife, Sylvia.
A private family luncheon and celebration will be held at Race Point Light in Provincetown at a later date.
