Chrysella (Ellis) Smith-Thacher
May 2nd, 2016
Chrysella (Ellis) Smith-Thacher of Dennis passed away on Monday, May 2, 2016 after a lengthy illness. She had recently celebrated her 85th birthday.
She was the beloved wife of Melvin (Skip) Thacher of Dennis, and the loving mother of Adrian E. Smith and his wife Wendy of East Dennis and Gordon A. Smith and his wife Gloria of Dennis.
Chryssie was born March 30, 1931 to the late Brant and Polly Ellis. She was the youngest of five daughters. She was predeceased by her sisters Virginia, Alice, Hazel and Marie.
Chryssie was raised in Dennis and attended public schools riding her father’s bus every day. She graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1949. Chryssie never left Dennis despite her father’s request to “see the world”. She stayed where she loved to be, got married and raised her three sons. Chryssie had several jobs along the way including the Dennis Post Office, Dennis Public Market, Cape Cod Cooperative and Home Federal Bank before retiring in the 80’s. She could also be found at the polls where she loved to socialize with the town folk. Chryssie and Skip spent winters in Ft. Myers Florida and traveled the United States. As she would say, “we went everywhere”.
Chryssie’s family was most important to her. She loved riding with her son Gordon on his motorcycle, going four-wheeling on the beach and cruising in her ’65 classic convertible. She was an avid Patriots fan and shared her passion for football with her son Adrian. She also cherished her Wednesday night dinners with him.
Chryssie was a kind and caring woman. She was a wonderful mother and devoted grandmother, wife, sister and friend. She opened her heart and her home to many over the years. She found good in everyone and gave her love so freely.
Chryssie is also survived by her loving grandchildren – Aaron, Erica, Bryan, Joshua, Adam and Emily. She was so grateful to have them in her life and loved them with all her heart. They brought her great joy and it made her so happy to watch them grow up, become successful adults, and raise her great grandchildren.
Chryssie was predeceased by her former husband Milton A. Smith and her son Wayne L. Smith. She also leaves behind three stepsons – Randy, Dana and Dale, many nieces, nephews, extended family members, dear friends, and her special dog Missie.
Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, May 24, 2016 from 4-6:30 p.m. at Hallett Funeral Home 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth followed by a brief memorial service at 6:45 p.m. Burial will be private.
