Peggy Nancy Whitney, 92, of South Yarmouth, on 1st May 2016, following an accident at home, Peggy passed away. Born 23rd September 1923 in London, she served in the WRAF during the Second World War. All her working life was spent in the Continental Booking Office for British Rail in London. From there she could get you to anywhere in the world by boat and train with only a telephone and timetable. She married Hank Whitney in London on 20th October 1973 and arrived in the US on 3rd November 1973, living firstly in Detroit and from 1979 in South Yarmouth. Sadly Hank died in 1987. She loved her life on the Cape and never wanted to return to in the UK. Always an avid reader, she was asked to volunteer at the library in West Yarmouth and took to it like a duck to water. Until her death she was a volunteer and even became a Trustee for some time. Her other abiding passion was keeping fit and for many years ran a class for seniors at The Senior Centre in South Yarmouth, only retiring in her late 80's. A memorial service will be held on  Monday 9th May at 11.00am at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Yarmouth Town Libraries and Yarmouth Port Library in Peggy's memory The local community were very kind to Peggy and we thank you all Brenda & Brian Kain (Niece and husband)

Dearest Brenda and Brian, Peggy was such a wonderful, fun, and super active lady! She retired before I did from the senior center, but she was always my model. I often pointed Peggy out to people remarking on how young she looked and how active she was. Peggy always told me it was from exercising all the time. And boy was she the Sargeant in her classroom!! She was loved by so, so many. I was extremely saddened when I heard what happened and so sad that you were due here to "play" with Peggy again. Peggy loved you both so much and spoke of you often, always with much tenderness. My deep condolences to you both. Your beautiful Aunt will be sorely missed. With love and hugs, Cathy Flanagan
