Marilyn Domain
Mar 25th, 2025
Marilyn (Buttlar) Domain of West Yarmouth passed away peacefully at home Tuesday morning, enveloped in the love of her family.
Born February 24, 1952 to Henry and Hilda Buttlar of West Roxbury, she attended St. Clare High School in Roslindale where she discovered a passion for languages that garnered her multiple awards and national recognition. She then went on to graduate magna cum laude from Boston College with a B.A. in Elementary Education in 1973. A month later she married the love of her life, Walter and the two relocated to the Cape.
Marilyn held various professional titles at Bradlee’s, The Christmas Tree Shops, Tree’s Place and most recently at Snow’s Home and Garden in Orleans. In addition to her roles as a doting wife and devoted parishioner of St Pius X Church in South Yarmouth, she took the most pride in her job as a loving, nurturing mother.
Marilyn was a cat lover, a teddy bear collector, and an avid reality television fan. She had a penchant for reading and a knack for any needlecraft that kept her hands busy. Her joy was palpable whenever she saw a hummingbird and when the first crocus broke through the ground to mark the start of spring. She knew there was nothing that couldn’t be soothed with a good cup of coffee.
She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Walter, of West Yarmouth, their child Emery of Worcester and her brother Richard Buttlar and his wife Constance of Nashua, NH.
Visiting hours will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Monday, March 31, 2025 at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at St. Pius X Church, 98 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA 02664. Burial will follow at Chandler Gray Cemetery.
Guest Book
Dear Walter. You and Marilyn have been the best neighbors one could ever hope to have. I shall always remember Marilyn’s infectious laugh and smile and how she always talked to Poppy. I shall miss our neighborly talks and how we each celebrated the first crocus of spring. She was and still remains a treasured friend. My thoughts are with you.
