Dr. John “Sean” D. Sheehan passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Sunday morning, February 9th, 2025.  Sean went to be with his Lord at the age of 91. He was predeceased by his beloved children, Brian and Maeve, his parents, Anne and Patrick and his brother, Patrick. He is survived by his loving wife, Berna (Kelly) Sheehan, of 65 years. He is also survived by his brother, Raymond and niece Suzy and nephews, Sean and Patrick, all of Ireland.  Sean is lovingly remembered by his children: Anne, Claire, Sean and Brendan and many grandchildren: Greg, Maeve, Kevin, Kyle and Fiona and most recently, a great granddaughter, Coco.

Sean was educated at the University College, Galway's School of Medicine in Ireland and came to Boston in 1959.  He married Berna and moved to the Cape soon after.  He spent over 30 years working at Cape Cod Hospital and in his own practice at Yarmouth Internists, which he established in 1969. Sean understood his life to be in service to those he encountered professionally and personally.  We are all better because of his care and attention.

Sean loved competition and was an avid golfer, accomplished tennis player and excellent fisherman.  In fact, he caught salmon on the River Moy in Ballina, Ireland, his hometown, to help pay for his medical school.  He had a twinkle in his eye, a story to tell and a way of whistling that made you happy when you saw him.  He was a great man and a privilege to know.

He will be sorely missed.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, February 27th at 10:00 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.   A Celebration of Life is planned for the near future.
