Ruth G. Pihl, 96, of West Yarmouth passed peacefully on January 15 in her home of 76 years. She was born September 21, 1928, in Lynn, MA to the late Harold Goodwin Sr. and the late Frances (Carter) Goodwin.

She graduated from Chatham High School and later fulfilled her lifetime dream of becoming a teacher after receiving a BA at UMass Boston in 1973. She was married to Winsor Baker from 1948 until his passing in 1957. Together they had three daughters. She was married to Benjamin Pihl from 1971 until his passing in 2013.

She was a Girl Scout leader and Sunday school teacher when her daughters were young. Later, she was active in the West Yarmouth Library Association, became a tour guide, and was a Town of Yarmouth poll worker. With her husband Ben she was active in the Hyannis Yacht Club, the Bass River Rod and Gun Club, and the Cape Cod Power Squadron.

She enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles, gardening, shell fishing, sailing, sewing, knitting Christmas stockings for her growing family, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family. She is survived by her brother Harold Goodwin Jr. of Chatham and predeceased by two brothers, Robert and George.

She is survived by her three daughters Susan Baker, Jane Lovelette (Timothy), and Louise Baker all of Yarmouth. She is also survived by five grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Burial will be private, and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to YFFRA, 96 Old Main Street, South Yarmouth 02664 or the charity of your choice.
