Yarmouth Port - Joan Rauschenbach Proctor, beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2024 at the age of 97.

Born in West New York, New Jersey, Joan was the daughter of the late Florence and Alfred Rauschenbach. She was raised in Dumont, NJ and graduated from William Paterson University with a teaching degree and later with a Masters in Library Science. Joan taught in both the Tenafly, NJ and Bloomfield, NJ schools for 20 years.

Joan married Norman Proctor in 1956. They raised their family in Ho-Ho-Kus, NJ and also lived in Colorado and Illinois before retiring to their home in East Orleans and later moving to Yarmouth Port. Joan was devoted to her family. She cherished her children and grandchildren and her many lifelong friendships. Joan enjoyed gardening, cooking, baking and entertaining. For many years Joan participated in volunteer work, especially for the Cape Cod Hospital Auxiliary and The Church of the Holy Spirit in Orleans.

Joan is predeceased by her husband, her parents and her brother, Alfred Rauschenbach. She is survived by her son, Robert Proctor and his wife, Deborah of Durham, CT, her daughter, Lynn Fox and her husband, Paul of Harwich, MA. She is also survived by her grandchildren and their spouses: Meaghan Fox, Justine (Fox) and Allen Schaen, Paul and Lauren Fox, Charles Proctor and David Proctor, and 4 great grandchildren: Paige, Lilly, Pierce and Chloe. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Winifred Rauschenbach, dear friends, Cathy and Chad Balfanz and their family along with many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of the Holy Spirit, Orleans, MA on Saturday, September 14, 2024 at 11:00 am. A private burial service for the immediate family will be held at a separate time at the Massachusetts National Cemetery, where Joan will be laid to rest with Norman. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Honduras Children’s Project (a charity founded by her grandsons), 414 Blue Hills Road, Durham, CT 06422.
