Gertrude Elizabeth (Bertrand) Rogers

Gertrude Elizabeth (Bertrand) Rogers, 99, of South Dennis passed away on February 4, 2016 after a brief illness. She was born in Brockton on December 10, 1916, and graduated from Brockton High School, class of 1934. After graduation, she attended Williams Business School and married G. Kenneth Rogers of Brockton on June 23, 1940. She was employed in the offices of United Shoe Machinery Corp., Billy Burke’s Record Shop, and Thorny Lea Golf Club as a bookkeeper and office manager. While in Brockton, she was a longtime member of Porter Congregational Church.
After moving to South Dennis in 1980, she became an active member of the Congregational Church of South Dennis, serving on the Board of Deacons and as treasurer of the Union Circle.
Her interests included spending time with family, playing cards with friends, and, as a younger woman, playing golf and traveling.
She was predeceased by her parents, William Anthony Bertrand and Mary Thatcher Robbins; her brother, Orville N. Bertrand; her husband, G. Kenneth Rogers; and a son-in-law, Raymond T. Sullivan. Survivors include a son, G. Kenneth Rogers, Jr. (Judy); a daughter, Cynthia A. (Rogers) Sullivan Meins (Stewart); a nephew, Lawrence W. Shaw (Joy); three grandchildren: Melissa A. Rogers, George K. Rogers, III, and Sean M. Sullivan; one great-grandchild, Daniel M. Tambascia, IV; three step-grandchildren: Chad A. Meins (Brittni), Stacie M. (Meins) Mogardo (Jake), and Justin A. Meins; and three step-great-grandchildren: Logan A. Meins, Caroline B. Meins, and Meadow L. Mogardo.
Interment of cremains will take place on March 5, 2016 at 10:15 a.m. in Oak Ridge Cemetery, Rt. 134, South Dennis, followed by an 11:00 a.m. memorial service and collation at the Congregational Church of South Dennis, 216A Main St., South Dennis. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Congregational Church of South Dennis or to the charity of one’s choice.

My deepest condolences to Mrs Roger's entire family. I was fortunate to fit eyeglasses to her for many years. She was always kind,and fun person to have visit my practice. She never looked or acted her age. I will miss seeing her pleasant smile walk in my door.
