Florence Nickerson
Jul 30th, 2024
South Yarmouth, MA - Florence A. (Burdick) Nickerson “Flo”, 95, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024. Born on Nantucket, Florence was raised and educated on Nantucket, graduating in 1947 from Nantucket High School where she played basketball. She was also involved as a majorette and cheerleader.
Florence met Otis S. Nickerson “Stan” and they married September 11, 1948. Married for over 65 years, Florence put motherhood first and foremost, raising her family on Nantucket before moving to Cape Cod in 1960.
After retiring, Stan and Flo shared time between their homes in North Port, Florida and Cape Cod. They traveled with friends to many places. One very special trip they took was to Europe for their 25th wedding anniversary.
After her loving husband, Stan died on December 28, 2013, Florence was encircled and supported by her closeknit family. She was blessed with many loving family members, all of whom she loved and appreciated dearly. Throughout her life she made many great friends (many becoming like family) and each and every one of them meant the world to her. She will be missed by all. Although she is not truly gone, she rests along her husband’s side in God’s loving hands. They left a longing in her heart, but now will finally be filled. We love you and will miss you until we meet again.
She loved spending time with her four grandchildren, Jennifer and her wife, Lindsay Holt, Allison and her husband, John Frazier, Sarah and her husband, Trevor Helsper, and Joshua, and one great grandchild, Kaden, as they were her pride and joy.
In addition to her grandchildren and great grandson, Flo is survived by two sons, Gary Neal and his wife, Dale, and Scott William and his former wife, Laura. She is predeceased by her husband, son David and her siblings, Maybelle Linstrom, Elwin Burdick, Ethelynn O’Donnell and William Burdick.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday September 11, 2024 at 1:15p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.
In lieu of flowers, Florence would ask that you reach out to help someone in need, a family member, a friend, or even a stranger.
Through love serve one another. (Galatians 5:13)
