It is with sadness his family reports the passing of Lt. Col. Richard A. Govoni, U.S. Army (ret.), on July 24, 2024. Dick was predeceased by his parents, Louis & Sarah (Murphy) Govoni, and his wife Susan (Barr). He is survived by brother Robert and his wife Marge, of Springfield VA, and sister Barbara, of Rockland MA.

Dick was a graduate of Brockton High School, class of 1960 and maintained lifelong connections with many of his classmates. Dick and Susan moved to the Cape 18 years ago after Dick’s many military assignments had created additional friendships and experiences all over the globe. Dick and Susan continued to be enthusiastic world travelers. Dick, who loved baseball, made it his own mission to visit baseball parks across this country.

Dick devoted many volunteer hours to The Family Pantry of Harwich and was also a dedicated golfer and former membership chairman for the Mid-Cape Men's Club.

As per Dick's instructions, there will be no visiting hours. Interment will take place at the National Military Cemetery in Bourne at 11:30 am on August 14, 2024. Those wishing to attend should meet at 10:15 am at Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Avenue, South Yarmouth, MA.

Dick was the love of my best friend Susan's life, and she had impossibly high standards. He was a devoted husband, much-loved sibling of Barb and Bob and dear pal of my late husband Karl as well as a loyal friend to many and a tireless caregiver in Susan's final years. An embodiment of the term "an officer and a gentleman" and a thoroughly lovely guy. I will miss him deeply.
